JCRC Education Initiative 
Serving Texas Students by Seeking Historical Accuracy About Jews, Judaism and Israel in Textbooks and Curricula

 

The Education Initiative is the JCRC's commitment to providing quality education for all young people in the Dallas area. The project seeks to positively impact primary and secondary education for both the Jewish and general communities in Dallas, engage and support the Jewish community in this effort, and help promote an economically healthy Dallas. 

 

Our Work in the Jewish Community

The JCRC Education Initiative serves as a resource and support to Jewish parents and families with children in public schools. We do this by:

  • Providing accurate and unbiased educational resources about Jews, Judaism, and Israel.
     
  • Offering guidance to help Jewish students and their families be successful in the public school system.
     
  • Convening and connecting Jewish parents of public school students with one another.

 

Our Work in the General Community

The JCRC Education Initiative works to promote a strong and economically healthy Dallas by focusing on strengthening and supporting the public school system and early childhood education for all. We do this by:

  • Raising awareness within the Jewish community of the challenges facing Dallas' public schools.
     
  • Creating initiatives that enable the Jewish community to impact public education on a policy and grassroots level.
     
  • Engaging the Jewish community by creating opportunities for hands-on service and involvement.

The JCRC Education Initiative provides comprehensive resources and educational materials regarding Jews, Judaism, and Israel. The initiative also provides support and guidance for Jewish families navigating the public schools system. Learn more.

The JCRC Education Initiative provides up-to-date, relevant resources and materials for educators to promote the accuracy in teaching of Jews, Judaism, and Israel in public education. Learn more.

Texas Textbooks 

 
New social studies textbooks adopted under Proclamation 2015 arrived in Texas classrooms in September 2015.   The JCRC Education Initiative, formerly known as the Public Education Initiative (PEI) worked successfully with state-level elected officials and educational professionals to ensure accuracy about Jews, Judaism, Israel, and Jewish contributions to Western Civilization in these new textbooks and their supportive materials. PEI also promoted fairness and balance in materials. 

 

PEI’s on-site presence at the State Board of Education’s hearings resulted in more than two-dozen changes to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards and contributed to over 1,400 corrections and changes to the new textbooks.
